Too many storms

Island Hurricane Cleanup

The old saying, “if it doesn’t kill you it makes you stronger” has been resonating in my mind these past few months with regard to the storms we’ve endured. Granted, Ian and Nicole were both rated CAT 1 storms (imperial evidence recorded on island wind meters dispute that) but their havoc and destruction were obvious and plain to see on the island. Since both storms brought predominantly easterly winds, the B side took a thrashing.

How did the island family respond? Within days, an island cleanup party was formed and people joinred together into work details to restore the island. Huge amounts of debris were cleared and secondary cleanup crews were established;ished to haul off 2 full dum[sters of Pressure Treated lumber (former docks).

The storms didn’t wipe us out, they made us stronger. The turnout was excellent with almost all full time residents and some part time residents joining in. Even Kevin joined in and drove his cart despite being disabled by a shoulder replacement just days before. Special thanks to Bruce for DONATING the dumpsters and Paul Howard for DONATING his barge!

It was a great way to improve the island and get to spend time with our neighbors and friends.
